When Rain Ruins Your Game Plan…

Antony seems to have found his soccer mojo with Real Betis, and it turns out the British weather may have been Manchester United’s biggest defender against him! The Brazilian, who packed his bags for sunny Spain this January, has hilariously cited England’s relentless rain as a reason for his muted goal celebrations at Old Trafford.

Since his high-profile €100million transfer from Ajax in 2022, Antony has only managed to slot home 12 times for United, but at Betis, he’s already all smiles with four goals in just 11 matches. “The sun here helps a lot, and the city (Seville) is better than Manchester,” he quipped, no doubt while donning his sunglasses and beach shorts.

While basking in the Spanish sun and grappling with siestas instead of tackling Premier League defenders, Antony avoids peeking too far into his future at Old Trafford. United boss Ruben Amorim, meanwhile, suggests the Jolly Green Physicality Giants of the Premier League were an added hurdle for Antony’s darting footwork. Whether it’s showers or shoulder barges, Antony seems to be the poster boy for the perks of Vitamin D in goal scoring!
