Ticket Mayhem: A Premier League Comedy of Errors…
Oh, to be a football fan in the modern age! If you think buying concert tickets is a hunger games scenario, try wrangling a seat for a Manchester City, Chelsea, or United match. Not only are fans fighting off price hikes faster than you can say, “referee, open your eyes,” but tourists are sneaking into home ends like ninjas with a penchant for overpriced hot dogs.
At the Etihad Stadium, things have been more thrilling off the pitch than on it – as fans fear a wallet cameo of magical proportions with the impending season ticket announcements. City’s been banning mischief-makers faster than a referee can hand out a red card after the Real Madrid hullabaloo. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s doing their own Sherlock Holmes impression, cancelling memberships left and right, including one cheeky chappy with 340 accounts tied to their name. Very smooth, chap, very smooth.
Over at United, they’re juggling Scotsman tourism faster than a flying haggis. Try as they might to stop the 4-1-5 tourist invasion, the Galatasaray festival in home ends was proof that football hospitality knows no bounds, much to United’s chagrin. Now, as these shenanigans reach fever pitch, perhaps supporters need to wave a white flag, unite and demand fair play. Because if football clubs don’t listen, all that may remain will be echoes in an empty stadium, holding on to memories of tickets past.
