Fernandes vs. Drinkwater: A Captaincy Conundrum…

Former Manchester United wannabe, Danny Drinkwater, has thrown a curveball at Old Trafford by claiming Bruno Fernandes isn’t his cup of tea as a captain. Handed the captain’s armband after Harry “Oops, I lost it again” Maguire slipped from the top spot, Fernandes has been under scrutiny despite delivering jaw-dropping performances. Yet, for Drinkwater, it seems a hat-trick doesn’t qualify you for a captaincy certificate!

In a startling revelation on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Drinkwater, with one leg still over the fence, shared that Fernandes’ leadership doesn’t float his boat. “He’s on fire, yes, but my captain needs that old-school, chest-out approach,” quipped Drinkwater, whose own United career didn’t exactly set the world on fire before dazzling at Leicester.

The numbers back Bruno up, though! With 16 goals and 15 assists in 44 games, you’d think critics might cut him some slack. However, a trio of red cards has left some, like United hall-of-famer Roy Keane, sharpening their criticisms. After a fiery chat with Ian Wright on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane challenged Fernandes to show he’s captain material. Bruno’s reply? A hat-trick against Real Sociedad and a masterclass against Leicester. TouchĂ©, Bruno, touchĂ©!
