Ruben Amorim has put Manchester United on notice with a cheeky warning that they might “struggle at times” if they don’t step up their game. United wrapped up their pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina at Old Trafford. Fiorentina opened the match with a goal that seemed as unavoidable as a pigeon landing on your head when you’re wearing your best hat. Luckily, a Robin Gosens own goal leveled things up, and United snagged victory in the Snapdragon Cup with a penalty shootout win. They’ll kick off their Premier League journey against Arsenal on August 17.
Amorim didn’t mince words as he dissected the match on MUTV, hinting improvements are needed to dodge another rough run. “It was a challenging game, especially at Old Trafford,” he reflected. “Our players were about as coordinated as two cats in a bag in that first half, but we eventually controlled the game. We need more fluidity, though. Fortunately, our summer signings like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are already at about 50% of their potential, which is a bit like having half a pair of socks—somewhat useful, but not quite there yet!” Amorim later playfully challenged his squad to fight for starting spots, suggesting it’s better to have too many choice players than not enough.
