In a game where yawning seemed more likely than cheering, Manchester United’s Andre Onana decided to jazz up the scene in Cameroon’s 0-0 World Cup qualifier against Eswatini. Rather than showcasing fingertips saves, the towering goalie unleashed his inner coach by dashing upfield to shower free-kick guidance on Bryan Mbuemo, a moment as priceless as it was puzzling. One could argue that Onana was channeling his inner Einstein, even if it meant abandoning his goalpost.
As the match dragged on through the night, Onana bolted from his goal, leaving fans wondering if he was moonlighting as a midfielder. Cameroon’s number one was spotted whispering words of encouragement — or possibly telling secrets — to Brentford’s Mbuemo. Astonishingly, his fellow players were all ears, taking in his advice as if he was the Yoda of set pieces. Who knew goalkeepers were such free-kick philosophers?
