Mishaps, Misses, and Manchester Mayhem…
Manchester United walked away with a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in their Europa League rollercoaster, oops, first-leg tie. This comes fresh after they spectacularly fumbled the FA Cup with a penalty shootout victory in favor of Fulham last weekend. In their quest for a trophy so far, the Europa League is their remaining shiny possibility.
The game started with United in the driver’s seat, zooming around like they actually knew where they were going. Alas, it turns out their GPS was a little faulty as they couldn’t find the back of the net and the first half ended in a stale 0-0. Enter Joshua Zirkzee, who finally remembered what sport they were playing and scored just before the hour mark. However, in true dramatic fashion, a handball by Bruno Fernandes let Sociedad’s Oyarzabal equalize with a penalty.
Despite being lost in translation by the Video Assistant Referee from Holland, who seemed to have taken up a cameo as the surprise villain, United fans are still dreaming of their team’s victorious dance to Bilbao for those semi-final encore performances. Until next time, football aficionados!
